The richest 10% of the world now owns 76% of the world’s wealth, while the poorest half of the population owns merely 2% of it. Women, ethnic, caste and racial minorities have been pushed further behind with the COVID-19 pandemic further intensifying inequality. The G20 needs to create a strong policy response to counter growing wealth and social inequalities because of its collective economic leverage and far-reaching influence over global and national policy matters. This, in turn, requires mobilization by global civil society by creating an official engagement group of Civil 20 (C20).
